The Cootamundra club was selected from more than 1000 clubs across the country to receive one of 90 ‘Grants for Grassroots’.
They were awarded a cash grant of $1000 and training gear including training balls, ground markers and ball bags at a special presentation ceremony this week at Cootamundra’s premier cricket ground, Albert Park.
Michael Hussey, former Australian Test Cricketer and CommBank Cricket Club Ambassador, said Grants for Grassroots provide deserving clubs with vital support.
“The Cootamundra Junior Cricket Club plays an important role in the community, so it’s great to see them recognised by the CommBank Cricket Club,” he said.
“There are a number of cricket clubs out there who could do with extra support. These grants provide clubs with a helping hand to make grassroots cricket even better for local players.”
Cootamundra Commonwealth Bank branch manager Mark Gash said the branch is delighted to see Cootamundra Junior Cricket Club rewarded with a CommBank Cricket Club grant.
“CommBank has been supporting Australian grassroots cricket for more than 27 years. We’re proud to play a role in keeping cricket thriving in the community and hope this grant will contribute to a successful season for the club.”
Local parents who did not register their children for the junior cricket season during last weekend’s registration day will have another chance this Saturday, October 18 outside Rudd’s Sportspower from 9am until 12noon Have-A-Go registration is $55 and older age groups are $60.
