Mr Taylor says they asked some terrific questions, including why the chamber is green (it follows the traditional colours of the British Parliament) and whether he had always wanted to be Member of Parliament (this became a goal a number of years ago he said when he realised if he wanted to change policy, he had to hop in and contribute himself).
Students also cleverly picked the history behind why the table in the centre of the chamber is so wide. In the days when Members of Parliament would have carried a sword, the table was deliberately wide enough so they couldn’t duel across it.
“Thankfully the parliament isn’t as barbaric these days!” Mr Taylor said.
He congratulated the students for staying engaged on the big issues and thanked them for their hand painted banner on protecting the Barrier Reef which was presented to him around the same time last year, and then shown to the Minister for the Environment.
