Dr Jim Della-Vedova, veterinarian at Cooper Street Hospital, passed away this week.
Jim has helped save the lives of countless animals and inspired young vets and vet nurses into the industry.
He ran his practice with integrity and authenticity, always available to offer advice on both pets and livestock.
His love of animals and that which he instilled in his staff saw him successfully run the Cooper Street Animal Rescue for many years in addition to his three clinics in Cootamundra, Harden and Temora.
His rescue centre rehomed many of the stray and surrendered cats of Cootamundra and surrounds, as well as many dogs, and even the occasional goat and duck.
Outside of his practice, Jim was a committed Rotarian.
He was held in prominence in the Rotary Club of Cootamundra having been president and always available on the ground to lend a hand.
Often at events such as the Australia Day Breakfast in the Park, Jim would be seen with his Rotary apron on and tongs in hand at the barbecue feeding the people of Cootamundra and raising funds for the many projects supported by Rotary.
Through his Rotary involvement he was a founding member of the Cootamundra Bike Festival which runs successfully each year bringing cyclists to town for a series of social rides.
His reach was felt in so many aspects of the community and his passing will be felt far and wide.
Here at the Cootamundra Herald, we offer our condolences to Jim’s family, friends, clients and staff.
