The predicted storms stayed away for a pleasant Twenty/20 match between the over 25s and under 25s, which saw the younger team prevail.
The over 25s had won the toss and batted, and were restricted to 9/113 from their 20 overs.
Our best young cricketers reached victory in the 18th over and eventually finished 5/121.
The only player to shown any real form with the bat for the over 25s was Crusaders captain Darren Connell; the elegant right hander finished with 29.
Other contributions came from Adam Twyford who made 18 and John Stephens 15.
The older brigade’s total was restricted with a couple of great catches taken by the younger team, in particular a one handed catch taken by Ryan Connell at mid-off to dismiss Adam Twyford, while Luke Levett showed a safe pair of hands picking up two catches.
Joel Pearson finished with the best bowling figures capturing 2/7 from two overs, while Judd Kerrison, the late replacement for James Smith, snared 2/13.
Set the moderate task of 114 runs for victory, the younger cricketers got away to a terrible start losing Josh Purtell and Judd Kerrison for ducks.
Opener Matt Berkrey treated the crowd to masterful innings though, the talented left-hander blasting a quick fire 50 in a knock that included three sixes and two fours.
Matt’s older brother Luke who loves batting at Albert Park remained 21 not out while Joel Pearson contributed another red ink display, finishing with 18 not out.
The only multi wicket taker for the over 25s was Brendan O’Callaghan, who captured 2/5 from his two overs.
Players, spectators and our younger cricketers enjoyed the big screen, the practice nets, and the destination NSW big semi-trailer that contained many cricket exhibits, which all made for a very enjoyable day.
Cootamundra, the birthplace of Bradman, feels very proud to be just one of the 27 cities and towns the Home Ground Cricket Tour chose to visit.
The Roberts family were very appreciative of the match being put on to raise funds for their second eldest son Joe.
A presentation of all money raised, which has exceeded all expectations, will be made to Scott and Jodie next week.
