Ride for Jai will be a cycle with a difference though as Come Alive Fitness will host twelve consecutive hours of RPM spin classes to raise money for Jai Godbier, who last year was diagnosed with a rare degenerative disorder.
The fundraiser is the brainchild of Cootamundra High School teacher Belinda Dunn, who has previously been involved with two RPM fundraisers run by Mark Elia and Sam Doidge in 2008 and 2009.
Belinda enlisted fellow teacher Brendan Gale to help organise the event and now ten locals have put their names forward to get sponsored for every one of the 12 consecutive classes, pledging to raise at least $600 each.
“I have always found the people of Cootamundra to be very proactive and
generous in supporting others within our community,” Brendan said.
When Brendan contacted Come Alive Fitness he said Mark was keen to help and very enthusiastic about the idea.
Mark and Sam have previously held two Ride for Light RPM fundraisers, raising approximately $10 000 for mental health each time.
Sam will be one of five instructors who will rotate through leading the 12 classes to keep things fresh for the committed spinners.
“We’ll black out the place, bring in disco lights and really make a fun day of it,” Sam said.
There are still plenty of spots available for those who wish to contribute, and don’t worry, you won’t be forced to cycle for 12 hours straight.
Each class goes for about 45 minutes and there is room for individuals or teams to join the consecutive riders for a session.
Teams can register up to 20 riders for $35 per person, but participants are encouraged to raise as much sponsorship as possible as all the money goes to the worthy cause.
There are presently seven teams who have registered various time slots throughout the day, and Belinda is hoping to encourage a team of teachers and a team of senior students from Cootamundra High School.
Those who are interested in getting involved should contact Mark or Sam at Come Alive Fitness on 6942 3084 or search for Cootamundra Come Alive Fitness Centre on Facebook.
Who’s involved?
Brendan Gale, Belinda Dunn, Ian Armstrong, Amanda Willoughby, Michael Taylor, Sarah Alexander, Ross Ponton, Dylan Berkrey and Josh Purtell will all ride in every one of the 12 consecutive classes.
Individuals and teams are invited to book a timeslot to accompany the riders throughout the day.
Cost is $35 per person but you can always aim for more sponsorship, as each of the 10 consecutive riders have pledged to raise at least $600.
The seven teams registered so far:
6am Cycle Club
7am Strikers
8am Bullettes
9am Essential Energy
10am Cricketers
11am Bulldogs
5pm Ninja Turtles (a mother’s group)
