MARK’S INPUT
It has been fun to reconnect with former Cootamundra man Mark Pinkstone as we today celebrate 138 years of the Cootamundra Herald. I remember well as a youngster going to the Temora Street home of the Pinkstone family for ‘little dinner parties’ hosted by Mark and his sister Jan. At that time his dad Harry was Editor of the Cootamundra Herald, my dad was Mayor of Cootamundra (now isn’t that showing my age!)

Hereunder is a short story on Mark’s life in Hong Kong -
I arrived here in 1968, worked on the South China Morning Post, married its librarian Tammy in 1970, took up publishing news and trade magazines, joined the Hong Kong Government in 1977 as a Senior Information Officer, became Chief Spokesman and Press Officer for the Government and eventually Chief of its Overseas Public Relations until my retirement in 1995. I then joined a Malaysian conglomerate (but stayed in Hong Kong) and was its corporate affairs director for its film studios in London (James Bond’s GoldenEye, George Lucas’ Star Wars the Phantom Menace etc), a bank in Geneva, supermarkets and pharmacies in Malaysia and property in New York and Boston.
Finally retired, again, about 2000 to write corporate books for the Legislative Council and HK International Airport and was media services head for the Equestrian Events of the 2008 Olympic Games. Now I live a quiet life doing some freelance writing and attending to my small garden in the New Territories near the Chinese border. There! That’s my life story in one paragraph.
Love Mark’s comment ‘that’s my life in one short paragraph’ (I read it as him having had ‘more moves than Burke and Wills!!’)
