In attendance at the presentation were guest sponsors Shane Rudd and Mick Sheahan representing ‘Adama’.
Prior to the presentations by the sponsors, Ken Thorburn paid tribute to Eddie Marinan who had supported the Wallendbeen competition winning the local area back in 1970 and 1971 with his brother Pat.
The competition, with 10 entries, was again closely contested with only three points separating the top three crops for 2014.
First place, the Jack Moriarty Shield and Prize, was presented to Steve Hardie.
Steve was in attendance, along with other members of the family, representing the Hardie Family Pastoral Company.
Their crop of Suntop, with 212 points, also won the Southern Division and the state title.
Runner-up in the local competition was Stockinbingal Pastoral Company, care of Michael Wilkinson ‘Netherby’, Wallendbeen. His crop of Wedgetail variety compiled 210 points.
Charlie Baldry of ‘Wallendoon East’, representing Baldry and Sons, took out third place.
Their crop of Wedgetail amassed 209 points during the competition.
Al Baldry of ‘Comfort Farm’ was named the winner of the ‘Seed Purity - Trueness to Type’ award.
Paul Edwards, his manager, was in attendance at the presentation evening and accepted the Ross Thorburn Shield.
Wallendbeen wheat growers are very proud of their record results, and rightly so.
Since 1969 they have won the Southern Division 20 times and since 2000 the State Title has been won by Wallendbeen farmers a total of six times, including the most recent win of the Hardie family.
Special thanks go from all involved to judge Andrew Daley from Cootamundra for his time and contribution to the competition and presentation evening.
Once again, thanks are extended from Wallendbeen farmers to sponsor ‘Adama’, Mick Sheahan of Coota Producers and all who supported and contributed to the very successful presentation evening.
