Federal Member for Hume Angus Taylor confirmed recently the signing of a funding agreement for Cootamundra under the Government’s Safer Streets programme.

“Cootamundra Shire Council will receive $37,825 in funding under our Safer Streets programme,” Mr Taylor said.

He acknowledged Council’s efforts  working closely with the Cootamundra Development Corporation and local police on how to best implement the camera system in premises on Parker and Wallendoon Streets.

“It is unfortunate that small towns occasionally have instances of vandalism and graffiti, or disorderly conduct after hours. This programme is designed to help reduce such instances and ensure the local business hub is a positive place for the whole community,” Mr Taylor said. 

Cootamundra Shire Council’s Greg Ewings said the funding would help the council and local law enforcement officers address street crime.

“We welcome the funding for CCTV cameras to deter anti-social behaviour. The local business community is really getting behind the establishment of security cameras in the CBD, which is a place we are all proud of,” Mr Ewings said.

Mr Ewings indicated that council will soon be finalising an application process for interested businesses to apply for the retro-fitting or installation of new CCTV cameras.
