Without their three Group Nine representatives, the Bulldogs were on the back foot early, conceding a try from the kick-off and another soon after to be trailling 10-0. However, this was to be a day in which they rallied together for a memorable win.
The highlights of the day came in the second half when wingers Ted Hines and Tom Drew crossed for vital tries.
Hines' four-pointer came on the back of a movement that involved at least a dozen passes, while Drew pounced on an opportunistic kick from halfback Jayden Durant to score the match-winner.
Stand-in captain Max Cameron produced an inspirational run late in the first half to get the Dogs back in the game, while centre James Collingridge again found the line.
The win was all the more impressive given the side lost big men Ben Goode and Dylan Stewart through injury, with Lachlan Lawson and Zac Finnigan rising to the challenge.
Tom Miller again took it upon himself to charge directly into what was a surprisingly big Magpies pack, making big metres with each charge, while Jack Nasser relished the chance to get involved in some forwards work.
The victory wouldn't have been possible without the efforts of under 13s Joe Ward, Brendan Kelleher and Lachlan Wilson.
