The Cootamundra Herald got a sneak peek of the action on Sunday during the dress rehearsal and can vouch for the fact the play will have you laughing, stuck to the edge of your seat and generally marvelling at the amazing homegrown talent we have here in Cootamundra.
The two-hour play is performed in two acts with a 20-minute intermission.
The story is loosely based on the traditional fairytale of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, however has been adapted to the stage and pantomine format by local playwright Marty Boyle.
The action takes place in the village of Rumblebott, a once-happy place that has been taken over by the wicked Baron Baddely (Blake Bloor).
Along comes hero Jack Trotter (Brittany Hefren), a dreamy dill of a lad, who lives with his poor widowed mother, the formidable Ma Trotter (Glen McAtear).
Jack is in love with the mayor’s beautiful daughter, Adelaide (Brianna Hefren) who says she will consider his hand in marriage if Jack can rid the village of the ghastly Baron.
It is here the fun really begins with Jack and his friend Peter Paramour (Sarah Stephens) on an adventure-filled mission to restore Rumblebott to its former happiness.
The play is in the expert hands of director Damian Smith, who hits the stage late in the show as the hilarious Enrico Bombalini.
Damian is assisted by Jenny Roberts – fearless leader of the CADAS Kids organisation.
The pantomine format encourages audience participation so when you go along cheer the heros, boo the villains and don’t be shy about clapping and calling out!
The play will be held in the Cootamundra Town Hall with performance times as following:
- Thursday, July 2 at 7pm
- Friday, July 3 at 7pm
- Saturday, July 4 at 11am (matinee)
- Saturday, July 4 at 7pm
Tickets are available from Jak & Jill in Parker Street.
The timing of the play is perfect coinciding with school holidays and will entertain both children and adults alike.
