The zone is made up of Cootamundra, Harden, Young and Boorowa Shires with the existing headquarters in Harden.
This is considered the geographical centre on the zone, however Young has put forth an argument to have the Fire Control Centre moved to their town.
While it is expected the new headquarters will cost upwards of $4 million, this has not been the sticking point of member councils, but rather a matter of location.
It is concurred by all member councils that the current premises in the old Trinity Building is outdated and inadequate for the needs for the service, however what they can not agree on is a new location.
Cootamundra Shire Council general manager Ken Trethewey said it is likely the four councils will be asked by the Rural Fire Service to make a decision on the location of the new Fire Control Centre in the next few months.
“We have not had that request yet,” Mr Trethewey said.
“Once they have all the information councillors will be in a position to make the decision,” he continued.
Mr Trethewey did say that Cootamundra councillors are most likely to vote for Harden.
He puts this down to the fact the council is heading for an amalgamation with their near neighbour and will take their views into account along with any other information.
The proposed brand-new state-of-the-art facility will allow better coordination between brigades and a more efficient, effective response in times of emergency.
It is rare a summer passes without a major fire in the zone and when emergency strikes, the Fire Control Centre really comes into its own working to direct firefighters on the ground ensuring the best efforts to protect our communities.
Among the country covered in the four shires are 50 individual Rural Fire Brigades, each with their own band of members.
Five staff work for the zone in infrastructure, membership, operations, administration and management.
