The duo are the inspiration behind hit movie ‘Paper Planes’ and will visit the Illabo Showground pavilion on Wednesday, July 15.
A series of five one-on-one workshops are being held during school hours for students of Illabo, Wallendbeen, Nangus, Jugiong and Marrar Public Schools.
That evening will be an open workshop for anyone interested in learning the simplicity and complexities of paper planes.
The visit by the these current rock stars of paper, has been generously supported by Wagga Air Centre and Cootamundra’s Central Air Services and is part of a “fun-raising” event to raise money for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).
The event is the initiative of Illabo’s Fiona and Andrew Hamilton, who are taking part in the Outback Air Race to raise funds for the RFDS.
They last participated in the 2012 event in their home built RV7a aircraft and raised over $21,000 for the service.
“This time I wanted to involved the local kids in what we are doing,” Mrs Hamiton said.
“Considering the event we are involved with and that we are raising money for the RFDS, when I heard about the Paper Pilots and their workshops, I thought they were an ideal fit,” she added.
As a long shot, she contacted the boys, told them about what her and Andrew were doing and said she would like to give small country school kids the opportunity to participate in something usually only available in larger metropolitan schools.
“I was amazed by their comments that, ‘This sounds awesome’, and ‘We’d love to do something like this!,” Mrs Hamilton said.
Anyone of any age is welcome to join in the hands-on evening workshop between 5:45pm and 6:45pm.
Bookings are essential and cost is $10 per person. Places will be limited.
Hot food and refreshments will also be available during the evening with all funds raised by the event to be donated to the RFDS.
The boys will also award a signed version of one of their special world record breaking paper planes as a prize.
To book call Fiona on 0428 245 446 by 5pm, July 10.
