Knowing that their 2015 season was on the line, the Bulldogs responded with an excellent display of wet weather football – controlling the ball while in possession and forcing their opponents into mistakes with some inspired defence across the board.
It has been the defensive efforts of the Dogs that has seen them turn their season around.
It will again be the key when they face Temora in the final round tomorrow week where victory will ensure they feature in the end of season games.
Dylan Woodhead, who is back to his barnstorming best, opened the scoring with a determined 20-metre run, while James Collingridge’s pace and Sam Sheahan’s elusiveness also saw them cross the scoreline in the first half for the Dogs.
A perfect three from three from Sheahan gave the Bulldogs an 18-0 lead at the break, with Adam Hinds, Ben Goode, Alex Wiggins and Jack Nasser all having great halves, Nasser lifting his teammates with some telling defensive plays.
Kangaroos hit back by posting the first points of the second half, however that was enough to spark the Dogs back into attack, with Collingridge and Sheahan both crossing for their second.
Hooker Jayden Duran was rewarded for his willingness to back up, latching onto a clever pass flick pass from Tom Miller to score under the posts.
Zac Rumble enjoyed the opportunity to play in the front line in attack, showing his class with some weaving runs, while Lachlan Lawson continued his excellent second half to the year.
The boys will play in the 73rd Junee carnival tomorrow where the emphasis will be on fun, before attention turns squarely to next week’s vital clash against the Dragons.
