This year that honour belongs to Cootamunda High School student Mikayla Large.
Mikayla, 18, is the daughter of Phil and Sharron Large and granddaughter of Margaret Large and Allan and Fay Liebeck, all of Cootamundra.
Mikayla is vice-captain of her school and is enjoying the leadership role.
She works after school and weekends at IGA and is often commended for her friendliness and her ability to strike up a conversation.
When she completes her schooling, Mikayla is interested in a career in either physiotherapy or exercise and sports science.
She plays leaguetag for the Cootamundra Bullettes and has represented her school and town in many sporting events including junior and senior basketball, touch football, soccer and cricket.
She has been successful in public speaking including winning the local Apex Public Speaking Competition on several occasions.
She is a regularly seen at the Cootamundra Show, Australia Day Breakfast in the Park, Christmas Carols in the Park and participates in the Coota Beach Volleyball Carnival and Cootamundra Touch Carnival each year.
Mikayla was Little Miss Showgirl in 2003, a year she was also flower girl at the Blue and White Debutante Ball. In 2013, she was Miss Junior Showgirl and also made her debut at the Blue and White Debutante Ball.
As Miss Wattle, Mikayla will be involved in the Wattle Time Debutante Ball (Saturday, August 15) and Wattle Time Fair and Street Parade (Saturday, August 29), among other activities taking place in our town during Wattle Time.
She was thrilled to be announced Miss Wattle, saying it is “exciting”.
Shocked to be nominated, let alone win the title, Mikayla is looking forward to throwing herself even further into community life over the rest of this month.
