Cootamundra Saleyards is cementing itself as a leading livestock facility in the state rising quickly to number seven in the state from 12 just two years ago.
Through campaigning and hard work of staff including saleyard manager Jeff White, the total yearly numbers have increased to an average of more than 9000 per sale.
Over the past six months, the National Livestock Reporting Service (NLRS) has started reporting from Cootamundra Saleyard, which has had an influence on the throughput of stock as producers are now able to accurately access Cootamundra prices with other regional sales the NLRS covers.
This advertising feature is sponsored by the following businesses:
“It is a bonus for the saleyard,” Mr White said.
“In most cases our prices are very comparable, to other centres, with selling costs less and freight cheaper,” he said. “This is particularly so with the top quality lines. The next step is to get our sheep sale report on the NSW Country hour.”
The saleyards are a council-operated facility and, along with the Cootamundra Associated Agents, conduct fortnightly sheep sales and monthly cattle sales at its Rinkin Street complex.
The Cootamundra Associated Agents are made up of six agents: Holman and Tolmie, Delta Agribusiness, Bassingthwaite Livestock and Marketing, Elders, Landmark and Butt Livestock.
Sheep sales are conducted on Wednesdays commencing at 10am.
This fits in well with other regional sales throughout NSW as most of the buyers attend the Dubbo Sheep Sale on the Monday, Forbes on Tuesday and then onto Cootamundra on the Wednesday.
Monthly cattle sales usually attract three or four trade buyers with the same number of local restockers present. Recently prime vealers sold to a top of $3.48 cents per kilogram liveweight coming back at close to $1300/head.

Finally another good reason to come and check out Cootamundra Saleyards is the morning tea and lunch served by the fabulous ladies and gents from Can Assist.
“Their input into the saleyards is very much appreciated,” Mr White said.
