About 30 square metres of canola stubble was burnt approximately 13 kilometres out of Cootamundra.
A NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) spokesperson from Harden headquarters reported it is believed the fire was started by a header at about 12.30pm today.
This was after it was recommended by the RFS that all havesting cease from 12noon until conditions improve in Young, Cootamundra and Harden.
While this situation was brought under control quickly it had the potential to be much worse with the RFS once again urging people to avoid using equipment which could spark a fire.
Once on scene, firies blanketed the area in water.
The spokesperson said authorities will review the cease harvest warning later today when it is believed a southerly change will bring cooler conditions.
Meanwhile, a fire at Marinna, near Illabo, has destroyed 19 hectares of a canola crop and is now under control.
Twenty fire trucks were needed at the Old Sydney Road property.
For those residents travelling south, the Hume Highway is closed at Goulburn due to a grass fire.
The area affected is near the South Goulburn McDonalds, with the RFS in attendance on the bypass just north of the southern interchange off the Hume Highway.
It has been reported northbound traffic is at a standstill and excessive smoke is pouring across the road, make visibility low to nil.
