The event is hosted by the Cootamundra Lions Club with all the community clubs and organisations getting involved.
Market stalls will be a feature from 5pm with plenty of local goods up for grabs. Certainly worth a meander around the oval to see what you can find.
The impressive fireworks display is sponsored by the local businesses who generously support the event each year.
The fireworks display culminates what is always a terrific evening of fun and last year were an absolutely terrific display with this year promising to be just as good.
Lions president Charlie Sheahan said the fair gives the community the opportunity to come together for an evening of family fun, joy and entertainment, in preparation for Christmas.
“There will be rides games and events for all, and a special visit from Santa for the children,” Charlie said.
Dodgem cars, a giant slide, jumping castle and ‘Side Show Alley’ will keep the kids entertained all evening.
Always popular is the “Old Train”.
This year marks 44 years that the train has been entertaining the children of Cootamundra.
The train was built in 1971 by the then Railway Picnic Committee and steamed up for the first time at the Railway Picnic on Monday, October 25 1971.
The train has ever since been available for charitable use in Cootamundra. It has regularly been used for the Christmas Fair and also many other fetes and occasions.
According to record the train was built over four months of many hours generously volunteered.
Those recorded with the work were Kevin Rogers, Peter Cullen, Doug Power, Doug Watson, Ken Stapleton, Jim Walsh, Doug Williams, Jim Slattery, Ray Annetts, Max Eccleston, and Terry Patterson.
They had assistance from Noel Bruce, Kevin Gordon, Vic O’Neill, Frank Walker, Ray Taprell, Bob Benson, Bob McFarlane, Frank De Britt and Mowall Engineering.
The train has become a part of Cootamundra’s history and has provided more than three generations of children with memorable moments.
The Cootamundra Lions Club is the present custodian of the Train following the closure of the Apex Club, and would like to express their gratitude to Christine Wishart’s Dance Studio for their support in keeping this icon running.
As per tradition, proceeds from the event will go back to the community.
The Lions Club has followed in the Apex Club’s footsteps, donating profits from the evening back to various groups.
