No one looking after bush
At the state election last year we were led to believe from what Katrina Hodgkinson stated on several occasions that under this government there would be no forced amalgamations.

I was accused of running a scare campaign against the “fit for the future“ policy, along with a dirty campaign and tactics.
I plead guilty to the scare campaign charge, only, with good reason. There is nothing nice, good or desirable about a loss of democratic right to self-determination through a forced amalgamation put upon your elected council.
What makes Cootamundra and Harden’s position even worse is, despite going down the voluntary path to a mutual agreeable amalgamation, they both now face forced amalgamations.
Our elected councillors are under huge pressure, and face a difficult dilemma, to represent their communities on the one hand, and to be seen as servants of the Local Government ministry on the other.
To make further insult, the minister Tool that is driving this is a National, the member for Bathurst, and there is very little opposition coming from the National MPs, that claim they represent the interests of the bush.

Time to strike
Can we see, from behind the scenes, the prime minister’s hand, when we heard that all but one premier signed a declaration that Australia should become a Republic?
Bob Hawke talked about the “inevitably of gradualism” and that is what we are seeing here with this re-vamped Republican debate. The republicans are waiting for the right moment to achieve their goal. In 1984, then-PM Hawke said: “For the right moment you must wait ... But when the time comes to strike, you must strike hard, or all your waiting will be in vain.”
They have waited: now their time has come to strike.
