It has been about 18 years since street signs were replaced in the Cootamundra township and Cootamundra Shire Councillor Paul Braybrooks has noticed many are becoming increasingly faded.

He has called on council to consider a budget allocation for a rolling replacement program, however accepts that until a decision is made on which other council or councils Cootamundra Shire will amalgamate with, work can not commence on any new signs.

However, with a new merged entity, there will be a new emblem and a new colour scheme.
This would make any progress using the current Cootamundra Shire logo ineffective.
Most of the current street signs are all the same format.
They replaced a mix of older signs with different colours and emblems on them, an undertaking completed to promote consistency in the shire.
It is anticipated the issue of street sign replacement will come up once again when a merger decision is announced in the middle of this year.
