Nancy then had the pleasure of inducting and welcoming Lesly Clarke to our club.
Ann Miller also added a welcome to Lesly on behalf of all members.
The usual meeting procedure was then conducted including a reminder of the AGM on March 14 after a 9.30am morning tea at the Ex-Services Club.
An invitation was issued to all members to consider nominating for a committee position as all will be vacant, and unfortunately if not filled we will have no club.
We certainly don't want that to happen.
The raffle was then drawn after which the nominated hostesses served a delicious morning tea.
Then it was time to relax and listen to guest speaker, councillor Doug Phillips.
Doug spoke to us about his life.
It proved to be a story of great inspiration to us all on how you can achieve in life if you really want to.
In his early years he lived in Wollongong with his mum and dad and three siblings.
They eventually moved to Cootamundra where his dad was a truck driver and his mum worked at the nursing home.
Doug attended Cootamundra High School where he first met his future wife.
After leaving school he did a cabinet maker apprenticeship.
Then after marriage he and his wife moved to Queenbeyan where they started their family.
Doug acquired many jobs over the time there and did very well in each one.
Eventually he ended up returning to cabinet making and the family moved back to Cootamundra.
After a time Doug wished to do something different in his work life so did a part time Uni course in teaching and eventually obtained a job teaching at both the Catholic and State High schools.
This work opportunity lead him to be a full time teacher at the State High.
Indeed a very successful life story geared by very strong family support.
Now Doug is there for his own family supporting and encouraging.
Doug has also shown his great community support by being a member on the local council and even attaining mayoral duties for a time very successfully.
Doug finished his talk on this wonderful high note of achievement leaving us with the thought that we haven't heard the last of Doug Phillips.
