Born Feburary 29, 1912, Mrs Gunn may be a centenarian but this will be just the 26th time she can celebrate on her actual birthday.
It makes for a good answer to the question she’s most accustomed to answering: what is the secret to long life?
“I don’t worry about nothin’. Maybe because I only have a birthday once every four years,” Mrs Gunn said.
Though she lives with her daughter Lorraine Clarke, Mrs Gunn is still fiercely independent and enjoys taking the dog for a walk.
Her good health helps her keep up with her eight children, 35 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Born in Glenorie, north-west of Sydney, Mrs Gunn is a passionate Canterbury Bulldogs supporter. She stays up late to catch every game, and loves making NRL blankets and scarves.
50 family members will gather at the Family Hotel on Monday to celebrate the only way Mrs Gunn knows how: a big party with a live band.
