It may be a teacher going above and beyond the call of duty, a grandparent helping new Australian citizens learn to use the library, a mother reading the newspaper to elderly residents, teenagers assisting seniors to download eBooks or a business funding books for hospital waiting rooms.
If you know someone who is enriching the lives of people in the community through literacy, nominate them for a Reading Culture Award.
Nominations will close May 10.
Each branch of the Riverina Regional Library can have a local winner, announced on May 17, and all nominees and those who nominated them, will be invited to a celebration morning tea at Wagga City Library on May 24.
A region wide winner will be announced at this morning tea, and everyone will be encouraged to informally share what they are doing to support literacy in their community, to encourage others and share ideas.
People with good literacy skills are more likely to have higher self-esteem, better health, better jobs, higher wages and are better able to take advantages of life’s opportunities, so let’s celebrate those who are helping to improve the prospects of community members.
Contact the Cootamundra Library to put forth a nomination.
