Women Walking the World is an Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW) initiative and on Friday, April 29, women from across many countries joined together to raise funds for other women in need.
Participants are sponsored per kilometre walked on the day with this money assisting partnership organisations, including the Country Women’s Association, to offer mutual support, friendship and practical help to women and communities around the world.
ACWW is an association of women-led societies and groups working collectively for the shared vision of an improved quality of life for women and communities worldwide.
With 420 member societies in 73 countries ACWW gives voice to more than nine million rural and non-rural women.
Women Walking the World reminds and informs people of ACWW’s support, friendship and practical help in improving the lives of women and their families in communities around the world.
Wallendbeen CWA’s Marcia Thorburn said the ladies were thrilled to get behind the event, with Women Walking the World representing the values of the CWA.
She said to know funds raised will assist women in need from getting water to villages to improving the standard of living is a great reason to get involved.
“To think that women are walking on the same day in more than 70 countries is inspiring,” Mrs Thorburn said.
- The Herald will report a dollar amount raised when the final has been tallied. Well done ladies on getting involved.
