The seven-year-old was accompanied by his coach, Shayne Wilson, and assistant coach, John Leak, and led the way with Xtreme Kata gaining a second place trophy, and third place medals for Traditional Kata, Point Sparring, and Combat Sword.
“Corbyn’s reputation for being honourable was clearly shown today,” Mr Wilson said of his student when he was paired up with a child half his size and weight.
“He could have pushed them out like other competitors did, but chose to just gently guide them towards the end of the mats.”
Back at the dojo, assistant coach Amber Beath said: “We are very proud that Corbyn has come so far with his techniques and is always willing to learn more.
“We encourage all our students to train to the best of their abilities and make use of our extensive knowledge to improve their skills.”
Corbyn is full of enthusiasm for his chosen sport.
“Training with my brown belt friends in class is awesome,” he said.
“They really help me get better.”
The young martial arts star is now training for his next tournament.
The club strongly believes its junior students benefit a great deal training with the senior students and are thankful they give their time generously to help.
Adding to their club training packages, Mrs Beath said: “John and I are currently developing a family support group that encompasses self-defence for everyday situations.
“We provide a welcoming, friendly, and safe environment that people can feel comfortable to train in.
“There are no wrong moves, just moves that can be improved.”
Corbyn wanted to thank the community for its support.
“Lots of people have been great and put my posters up in their shops,” he said.
“I want to say thank you to everyone who is supporting me. These awards are for them.”
Many opportunities for financial sponsorship and contributions for Corbyn’s future tournaments are still available for this year. Call 0438 552 882 for more details.
Earlier this year, Corbyn picked up a trophy at a tournment in Sydney, where the local martial artist gained the respect of his peers and spectators as he wowed them with his non-contact, competitive abilities during several events at the All Australia Championships Kempo Ryu and Sydney Junior Games Tournament.
