I too feel affronted and frustrated at the way the amalgamation and name change of the councils have been made.
This has been done without consultancy and in a most undemocratic way and ignoring the wishes of those citizens many of whom have elected this state government.
Christine Ferguson has allowed us the opportunity at a meeting on June 9 to voice our opinion on a change of name.
I support Isobel Scott's suggested name of Muttama Valley Shire Council and equally Simon Bragg's suggestion of Ulandra Regional Council. Both names are encompassing of each town. We have a very good choice.
Cootamundra is very important to me. My forebears settled in the country here in the early 1900s. My late husband's father Frank Mitchell did most of the building in the town and district in the 1910's-1940's. Members of my family served on firstly the Jindalee Shire Council and then the Cootamundra Shire Council for a total of 47 years.
We must attend the meeting on June 9 and emphasise our desire for a change of name. If we do not get this, I fear that Cootamundra will fall into oblivion.

We can honour memories
I would like to put forward two names for the new shire council.
As shires, they were made up by the way most of the water flowed in creeks as the old Cootamundra Shire did to the Murrumbidgee River. The same is the case at Gundagai.
When in 1829 this country was known as New Holland. This area belonged to the Aboriginal Ngorigo people or Morumbeeja - their name for the Murrumbidgee River.
As 5000 of their tribe were poisoned at Gundagai, 400-plus at Jugiong and most of all, Aboriginals between Cootamundra and Burrangong.
It may be good to say sorry, they need to not be forgotten. The tribe has departed and now we have a way to honour their memory: Morumbeeja Shire Council.
The other suggestion is Northern Riverina Shire Council, as the Riverina starts at Wallendbeen.
In all of Aboriginal history in the 1800s, there was never a tribe called Wiradjuri.

Merged council name
In regards to the amalgamation of the Cootamundra Council and Gundagai Council, I wish to put forward the name CootaGundi as a name for the shire.

Thanks, Coota angels
On May 6 I came to visit some ex-residents of Tamworth who moved to Cootamundra 1½ years ago.
After travelling the best part of 900km and being in town only a matter of hours, I had a diabetic attack combined with very low – and immediately after very high – blood pressure and collapsed at my friend’s residence.
I would like to publicly thank the two fine paramedics whose professionalism undoubtedly saved my life, Emma and Amanda.
The actions of my friend Jim Prentice who called for help and the doctor and nurses on the night shift at Cootamundra Hospital who took care of me until I was transferred to Wagga Hospital by ambulance.
I’m recovering well and would just like to say thanks once again.
