After committee members together with members of the Junee Showground Trust walked the field yesterday morning they found it was simply too wet to consider holding next weekend’s junior rugby league carnival for both the boys league and girls leaguetag.
“After taking in the condition of the fields, parking problems and our duty of care the committee has to announce that unfortunately the carnival has been cancelled for 2016,” a spokesperson for the carnival wrote on social media.
“I am sorry for any inconvenience but it was always in the hands of the weather gods and they are not smiling on the carnival at the moment and there is more rain forecast for August,” he continued.
A total of 125 teams had been scheduled to compete in the carnival scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 6.
The Cootamundra Junior Rugby League Club always puts a strong effort in at the carnival with many parents and children left disappointed they will not get to play this year.
The club is now deciding what to do with the weekend which substitutes a regular Group Nine round for the carnival.
