Of concern is the Thompson Street footbridge which was completely covered when Muttama Creek rose to over two metres last Wednesday.
The weight of the water and debris flowing downstream pushed the handrails over collapsing these on both sides.
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council Interim General Manager Ken Trethewey said on Monday council had not been able to ascertain the full scope of the damage as yet.
The creek has dropped to around 70cm after a top of 2.10 metres at 7.45pm on Wednesday.
It is anticipated that should any structural damage exist to the footbridge, the council will apply for disaster funding to rectify it.
In the meantime, Mr Trethewey said given this week’s forecast rain, the footbridge and all causeways in Cootamundra will remain closed to pedestrian and motor vehicle traffic.
