Firstly, we can report that the Clevelands, Betty and Roy have advanced to the next round of our mixed pairs by defeating Karen McMinn and William (Bill) Manwaring by 21 shots to 18.
The Clevelands, after a slow start, gained the lead and retained until end 19.
Bill and Karen levelled there, 17 shots all, and then lost four on second last end and could only recover one back on the last end.
The second championship was a club triples involving Adam Hutchinson, John Malone, and Kevin “Scobie” Breasley.
Scobie’s bowls game has been given another life by means of a Bowling Arm.
His team got to the front at end five and were never headed by their opposition, namely Norman Apps, David Bateup and Ron Rosengreen.
Final score was Adam, John and Scobie 23 shots defeating Norman, David and Ron on 13 shots.
Social games on Friday proved to be mixture of good and bad, certainly not finishing as selectors would like, in two games, something that happens every now and then because players don’t perform to their potential.
Such was the result for Geoff Hagan, John Malone, and Arthur Ward.
They left no doubt as to whom the winning vouchers were going with a win by 34 shots against Graham Bushell, Peter Rasmussen, and Roy Cleveland.
The other game was between Garry Cassidy, William Ledger, Kevin Breasley and Charlie Willis, Eddie Jarrott, and Don Manwaring.
The game had turned into a lopsided affair by end 21.
Don’s team completed the job by finishing the game with a 23-shot margin.
The pairs game proved to be more like the desired tussle and saw Brad Lange and Graham Davidson edging out David Harris and Michael Barber by four shots.
Besides the championship games on Sunday, one social rink was played.
Charlie Willis, Graham Bushell, and Eric Thorburn matched up against Geoff Hagan, Arthur Ward and Graeme Worboys.
Geoff, Arthur and Graeme took out the contest, finishing finished with a plus 12.
That margin gave them the jackpot as well.
