Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council is one of seven councils able to apply for funds to help clean up and restore damaged essential public assets.
Riverina MP Michael McCormack was in Forbes, the area worst affected by flooding, on Tuesday morning to make the announcement.
“We stand ready to assist affected local communities to get back on their feet, and I am pleased to see this funding announced today,” Mr McCormack said.
Cootamundra MP Katrina Hodgkinson also welcomed the funding announcement.
“I am very pleased the State and Federal governments have expedited NDRRA assistance for a number of local government areas impacted by flooding,” Ms Hodgkinson said.
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council general manager Ken Trethewey said Council plans on making a claim.
“A declaration has been made this morning which means we are entitled to claim for repair of damage.
“We are currently and will continue to assess damage and then lodge a claim which will then be assessed by government,” Mr Trethewey said.
As well as council funding, money is available to people whose homes or belongings have been damaged.
Low interest rate loans for small businesses, primary producers and not-for-profit organisations are also available.
