He joined the Cootamundra Country Club in 1962 and was on the committee for more than 30 years.
Mr Kirley was made a patron of the club in 1984.
His time on the greens of Cootamundra saw him win the Doidge Cup in 1957 with Fred de Belin and again in 1981 with Terry Kurtz; the Bassingthwaighte Trophy in 1957 with Marion Doidge and again in 1980 with Monica Troy.
Mr Kirley also won the B Grade Club Championships in 1979.
When 18 holes of golf became too much, he dropped back to 15 joining the Veteran’s Golf members on their regular round.
Mr Kirley regularly featured in the ball rundown and was valued on the committee.
Born and bred in Cootamundra, he was always a contributor, particularly when it came to his sporting love – golf.
He was a great organiser of Country Club dances and shows during the 1970s and 1980s and was instrumental in respect to the conduct of the club’s Annual General Meeting; meticulous and efficient in his approach.
His other sport of choice was tennis and Mr Kirley excelled at this also.
After joining the Cootamundra Town Tennis Club in 1952 he won the B Grade Singles Championship; the B Grade Mixed Doubles with Elaine Sullivan; and the B Grade Men’s Doubles with Graham Goodman.
Outside of his sporting endeavours Mr Kirley loved travelling with his much-loved wife Gwen.
The couple visited Singapore, Fiji, Vanuatu, Thailand, Hong Kong, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and closer to home Perth, Tasmania and Hamilton Island.
Mr Kirley was laid to rest in Cootamundra on August 5, 2016, aged 89.
He is the adored father and father-in-law of Deb and Roger, Alison and Alan and grandfather of Sam, Jay, Dugald, Laura and Georgina.
