Lisa was recently diagnosed with breast cancer, ramming the issue of awareness and the high statistics of this illness home to Mari and Karlie.
Lisa’s prognosis is good; the cancer was caught early and while she will need radiation, at this stage she will not need chemotherapy.
The family is planning a cruise prior to the start of Lisa’s treatment.
With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Mari and Karlie decided to dye their hair pink and will make a personal donation each to the Cancer Council’s Pink Ribbon fund.
They were supported in their efforts by La Faye Hair and Beauty, who donated the hair colour.
Mari said when she heard of her daughter’s diagnosis she immediately wanted to make a public statement to show her support for all women diagnosed with breast cancer and encourage conversation.
“Until it hits your family you don’t realise just what it all means,” Mari said.
She thanked Karlie for jumping on board, with Karlie saying as soon as she heard about her nan’s plans, she was in.
“I wouldn’t have had the courage to do this without my granddaughter doing it with me,” Mari said.
