An initiative of the Cootamundra Development Corporation (CDC), the tree signals the start of the festive period.
It was all hands on deck as CDC Board of Directors members John Stephens, Mauri Jackson, Peter Charker and Chris Wheatley, together with staff, Kate Collingridge and Ashleigh Warton, Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council’s Greg Ewings and council staff plus helpers Sarah Stephens, Lorcan Elleman and Kev Wheatley battled rain, strong winds and cold temperatures volunteering their time to put the tree together on Thursday afternoon before it was put in place at first light Friday.
This year is the final year of the deal which saw business sponsorship signs around the base of the tree.
This practice was a necessity to obtain the funds needed to purchase the tree after the former community tree was damaged by vandals.
Attention for the CDC now turns to next Thursday’s Community Christmas Party in the main street, which promises to provide plenty of entertainment and some opportunities for last-minute shopping.
