Bowls for 2017 at the Country Club began on Tuesday, January 3, with three games of pairs, and the cards show that the winning pair of three even games, Geoff Bottrall and Eddie Jarrott, achieved their victory by way of seven shots on one end against Charlie Willis and Phil Taylor, which gave them the half point in the 17.5 total, needed to win the day.
Graham Bushell, 15, and Greg Fisher, scored 17, against Kevin Black and John Cooper, as did John Malone and Kevin Breasley for their win over Stuart Taylor and Dennis O`Brien.
Friday, January 6, saw the pairs game of Doug Wallace and Bob New win the day with plus 10 against Geoff Hagan and Graham Davidson.
Roy Cleveland and Brad Lange came next with plus six against Kevin Black and Geoff Hillier, and then a plus five for C Willis, J.White, and R Rosengreen, winners over S Wilkinson, Clive Miller, and R Bondaruk .
G Bushell and G Dennis scored plus two against W Chater and W Manwaring. Last, P Rasmussen and D O`Neill had a draw with C O`Brien and R Smith.
On Sunday, January 8, G.Hagan, R Cleveland and R Smith had best card with plus eight against C Willis, G Bushell, and B Lange and the second card saw C Miller and G Davidson come in with a plus one over D Wallace and J Goggin.
Tuesday, January 10 was a big win for day by “ Grasshopper”, Bill, and E Jarrott over G Hagan, and D O`Brien, for 20.5 points. Next, K Black and R Bondaruk with 18.5 against W Chater and M Barber.
Then, 17 points came next for the win by C Willis and R Bradley over K Badcock and G Davidson.
G Bushell and J Cooper defeated R Bennett and W Manwaring for 15 points to complete the field.
Results of play on Sunday, January 15 brings us up-to-date for January. Voucher winners were R Bradley and D O`Neill by defeating A Ward and W Manwaring, by 12 shots. An 11-shot victory next for C Willis, W Ledger and K Breasley by defeating G Hagan, Keith Townley,and R New. Lastly, R Cleveland and M Barber had a seven shot victory over G Bushell and G Worboys.

A COOL pleasant evening, made for enjoyable Saturday evening bowls.
Pat Francis skipped the only team that won all three sets for the night, however Bill Manwaring and Charlie Willis were the winners with 13 winning ends, closely followed by Pat Francis and Graham Bushell on 12.
Third place went to Arthur Ward and Eddie Jarrett while Mike Barber and Jean Bushell finished fourth.
Names need to be in by 6.15pm on Saturday for next Saturday nights games.
Women’s Bowls
CONGRATULATIONS and well done to Ellenor Armstrong, winner of Queen of the Green for January.
The draw for the Club Singles Championship for 2017 has been done and is on the board.
Round one matches must be completed by February 28.
We have the usual busy South Western District calendar for the year, commencing with the District President’s Day to be held at the Country Club on February 2, followed by our first Pennants match on February 16.
The popular Crazy Whist will re-commence February 9.
