These are the people who have helped get the club to where it is today; a strong sporting club which consistently produces talented swimmers who enjoy honing their craft. 

The meeting is a major event on the club’s calendar with 188 swimmers representing 14 clubs registered to participate on the day. 

Clubs to be represented at the meeting include Adelong, Boorowa, Tumut, Wagga Asthma, Yass, Young, Quandialla, West Wyalong, Temora, Ungarie, Junee, Wagga, Ginninderra and Cootamundra.

There is a full complement of South West officials travelling for the meeting.

This includes four referees, four judges of strokes, four inspector of turns, two starters, two check starters, two marshals and three recorders.

It should be relatively pleasant conditions for swimmers and spectators with a top of 32 degrees predicted. 

With the Cootamundra pool set to be packed with people, it is a terrific opportunity for the club to unveil some of the equipment they have purchased with their $50,000 Stronger Communities grant from Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council. 

In all, the Cootamundra Swimming and Lifesaving Club will purchase new starting blocks, lane ropes, a lap clock, backstroke flags, wireless timing equipment and starting stand. 

The blocks and lane ropes have arrived with the lane ropes to be in place for Sunday. 

Time constraints mean the blocks will not be up and the rest of the equipment is still on its way. 

This new equipment is worth $40,000 with the remaining $10,000 in grant money to be supplemented with club funds and future fundraising to go towards repairs and renovations of the clubroom.

The floor has been damaged by water over the years and leaking windows, improved airflow and painting needs to be tackled. 

Improvements to the clubroom have been a long time coming, with the last work undertaken being a kitchen upgrade some 15 years ago. 

Club coach Sue Parkinson reported it has been more than 20 years since the blocks were replaced. 

“This work is all for the kids; they are the ones who will benefit out of this," Mrs Parkinson said.
