The club started their afternoon by winning the march past trophy. They were then announced winners of the ‘Terry Sheahan Trophy’ for the relay events over the four rounds and finally they won the major prize, the coveted ‘ET Shine Shield’.
Jugiong earned a total of 1629 points over the four rounds, ahead of Harden on 1589, Yass on 1541 points and Binalong on 1400 points.
This year’s series of Shine Shield swimming carnivals were the first at which the young swimmers sported their #playlikelui caps, in memory of a favourite son of the village Lui Polimeni.
Lui had represented the Jugiong Swimming Club and was a keen athlete across many fields, his main passion being rugby league and playing for his beloved Gundagai Tigers.
The #playlikelui, together with #livelikelui, hashtags have been adopted by his extensive network of family and friends to keep his memory alive and pay tribute to his sportsmanship and fun-loving nature.
The Shine Shield brings together the four small towns of Jugiong, Harden, Binalong and Yass for an annual competition with the 50th anniversary of the event being held in 2015.
More than individual success, it is about team spirit with points accrued for participation as well as placings.
The carnival provides family fun each summer holidays.
The ET Shine Shield began life donated by the late Buster Shine, a Binalong grazier.
