“It is with much sadness that we hear the news today that Manildra Meats, a great family-owned company, will be ceasing operations at Cootamundra next week,” Ms Hodgkinson said.
She described the decision as “a great loss for the electorate and of course, for the some 220 full-time and casual staff at Cootamundra”.
“This decision will also have a flow-on impact for associated small businesses,” she said.
Ms Hodgkinson has been advised that assistance will be extended to staff who find themselves out of a job because of the decision, including payment of full entitlements and ongoing support as necessary.
“This will be a very challenging time for the Cootamundra community, who I am sure will rally behind staff and their families to provide personal support,” she said.
“Abattoir operations can be a volatile industry especially when cattle prices are at the level they are at now. My thoughts are with the individuals and families as they go through this tough time,” she continued.
