"I think it's really important to start embracing people," the 31 year-old model told E! News at the Sports Illustrated Swim 2017 launch party.

"Seeing them in roles that are not necessarily 'That Asian Girl' or 'That Asian Boy'... I want it to be a normal thing to be able to see Asian models, and I think Asian models are really under-represented in the industry, especially on the runways or in magazines."

Teigen, who grew up in America and is of Thai, German and Norwegian descent, added that the issue is not rooted in modelling. She said the lack of diversity in the film industry is so drastic that "in movies you're like 'Oh, this Asian girl is dating this white guy' - I want that to be normal."

Sharing her thoughts about cultural appropriation, she added: "I personally am not offended by cultural appropriation of any sort because I feel like it does pay homage, but at the same time there are a lot of beautiful, beautiful, beautiful, Asian women that could do the same thing."

Her comment comes after fellow IMG model Karlie Kloss had to apologise last week when she was criticised for appearing dressed as a geisha in a Vogue photoshoot.

It is not the first time that the Queen of Twitter let her voice be known. Teigen, who is mostly famed for her US President Donald Trump putdowns, went viral last year for her tweet about the lack of diversity in the Miss Teen USA pageant.
