The Cootamundra sale yards and associated agents held its fortnightly sale on Wednesday, February 22 with a yarding of 4838.

This was an increase of more than 1000 head on the last sale.
The market was made up of 2948 lambs, 1262 ewes, 462 hoggets, 87 rams, 72 old sheep and seven wethers.
Saleyards Manager Jeff White said the quality of the stock coming forward continues to be good, especially trade lambs.
Two regular buyers absent were absent from the sale, however an additional Southern order made a return after an absence of a few months.
Buyers operated in a market that was quoted by agents as $6 to $8 cheaper for lambs with the mutton market off the pace by $4 to $6.
Mr White said this was a pleasing result considering the volatility in the processing industry at the moment.
For the third sale in a row the top price lambs were presented by LT & DN Smith of Illabo, with a quality pen of XB lambs making $171.
Lambs are part of the third draft and once again they were 2kg lighter with an estimated carcass weight (CW) of 26kg.
Carrying a $7.50 coat they came back at $6.30/kg CW.
Other quotes
- 24 to 26kg CW trade lambs made between $160 and $171, to be $4 cheaper than the previous sale
- 22 to 24kg CW trade lambs made between $135 and $145, $8 off the pace from last sale’s highs
- 20 to 23kg CW trade lambs made between $115 and $130, down $6
- 16 to 20kg CW lambs, a bit off in the skin, made between $85 and $110 to be $5 cheaper, with the re-stockers active
- (Most of the above lambs were on the $5.80 to $6.30 mark CW)
- The mutton market was slightly cheaper with some good runs of heavier mutton; most prices were $2 to $4 down from the last sale
- Heavy old ewes with a big jacket reached a top of $128, or approximately $4.20kg CW
- Medium framed ewes made between $90 and $105
- Light boner mutton made from $40 to $60
- Most mutton averaged between $3.90 and $4.20kg CW
- Hoggets made a top of $145, to average $111, up $10
- Rams continue to be sought after and made a top of $115, to average $90
