It all started when two men arrived at the South Gundagai house in the early hours of Saturday.
They came armed with metal poles and a knife, police said, forcing entry to the house.
Inside the home, they allegedly attacked the 33-year-old man with the weapons.
It then went a step further, with a cattle prod also used a number or times.
During the attack, the two men stole various items including cannabis and mobile phones, police said.
Two men have since been charged after the violent invasion was interrupted by a lone policeman.
The ordeal was interrupted when a single unit officer from the Gundagai police station arrived at the house and confronted the two alleged attackers, who were still armed, inside the home.
They both dropped their weapons, and in the process of being taken into custody one of the men fled the scene.
While the second man was able to be secured, the escapee was arrested a short time later at a local service station.
The men – a 40-year-old from Young and a 44-year-old from Cowra – have been charged with robbery while armed with an offensive weapon, possessing a prohibited drug and escaping lawful custody.
They were refused bail and will appear before Wagga Local Court.
