A man who allegedly claimed to be an undercover police officer before he indecently assaulted a 16-year-old girl has been arrested and charged in Sydney's north.

The alleged incident unfolded near Chatswood train station on Sunday afternoon, after the girl walked out of the station at about 4pm without tapping her Opal card.
Police say she was approached by the man, who works for Sydney Trains and had his ID card visible, "a short distance away" from the ticket barriers.
It is alleged the man then claimed to be an undercover police officer.
In a statement, NSW Police said the man then began to lead the girl towards Chatswood Police Station.
"While in Victor Street, Chatswood, the man allegedly indecently assaulted the girl, causing her to cry," the statement said. "He then fled the scene."
Police began investigating the incident when they were notified that night.
On Friday afternoon, a 43-year-old man was arrested at Macquarie Park train station.
He was taken to Chatswood and charged with indecent assault and impersonating a police officer.
Police granted the man conditional bail. He will face Hornsby Local Court on April 19.
