Every Monday and Friday you may expect 82-year-old Roy to be at home tending his vegetable patch, but no, he is displaying his guile and agility on the Cootamundra Town Tennis Courts with the “Tennis Legends”.
Roy has been playing tennis most of his life, starting at Murrumburrah in his teenage years.
The Tennis Legend group is made up primarily of much younger 70+ year olds, as well as a couple of kindergarten 60+ year olds who have special permission from their parents to be allowed to play.
Many show the “battle scars” of ageing with knee or hip replacements, heart by-passes and often more knee bandaging than a champion pacer. However, each is hugely appreciative of the fact that they can still at least “waddle” if not run around the tennis court.
