A collection of local community groups led by project coordinator Steve Mills are days away from completing the walk using $45,045 in Stronger Communities grant funding from Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council.
”It’s been a step-by-step process but we’re very close to completion,” Mr Mills said.
“People walking their dogs, riding their bikes, even pushing their prams can now traverse Cootamundra on foot.
“This pedestrian path bisects the town diagonally and avoids most street crossings.”
Mr Mills intends to replicate the stylistic layout of the bird walk by adding picnic areas and art installations along with new additions such as water fountains.
While some work still needs to be finalised, Mr Mills is planning an informal opening within the next week to celebrate the path’s completion.
