Wearing the famous blue guernsey for the first time, the girls were given a baptism of fire by a Jets side featuring the likes of AFLW star Britt Tully and failed to register a score in the one-sided affair.

After a frustrating first quarter during which eight goals were conceded, the Blues defence shored up markedly to contain the lively Gungahlin midfield and create scoring chances around the fringes.

Tenacious work from Tymika and Michaela Perceval along with a plenty of home crowd support urged the Blues onwards, however the well-drilled Gungahlin unit continued to press their advantage ahead of halftime.

The third quarter saw a rejuvenated Blues outfit take to the field and execute a well-formulated defensive plan, keeping the highly-touted Jet’s forward line to only two goals. 

However, a combination of fatigue and a seven-goal haul from Jets forward Madelaine Shevlin saw the visitors pull away in the final stanza to run out 142-0 victors.

Dismissive of the scoreline, club spokesperson Pat Kerin expressed his delight at simply fielding an inaugural women’s side.

“I never thought we’d ever have an all-female side at the Blues – it’s a fantastic achievement,” he said.
