The 15-0 result was indicative of the gulf between the two sides as Tolland scored freely to cement their position as competition favourites, though the margin would have been even if not for some excellent goalkeeping by Taya Smith.
Smith was a shining light for the Strikers and drew praise from coach Mick Simons after saving countless shots on goal and remaining positive till the final whistle.
Early injuries to captain Tanealle Ecclestone, Kat Gould and Ash Holder crippled the Strikers chances from the onset however coach Mick Simons said the quality of the opposition was to be commended and aspired towards.
“No excuses, we just simply could not keep up with Tolland – they will win the Leonard Cup by the length of the straight,” Simon said.
“We do really have a difference of players within our squad whereas every Tolland player is skillful, fit and very talented.
This was simply a game where we knew our own limitations and how far in front of us Tolland are.”
However, Simons praised his side’s tenacity and unwillingness to concede.
“Taya's performance in goals and how we kept trying to compete until the final whistle were real positives,”
