The loss sees Cootamundra still looking for their first win in their first season of the competition, however all is not lost with captain Michaela Percival saying she has seen the girls’ pressure and intent pick up over recent weeks.
“We need to attack the ball; not be scared to pick it up and I’m seeing improvement there,” Percival said.
Following the game, she encouraged her troops to attend all training sessions to see improvements come game day.
The girls train hard with sessions each Wednesday and Friday night as well as joining in with the Blues men’s team at training every second Thursday.
With only nine members of the girls’ squad having been involved in football before this season, Percival said she is well aware of the giant learning curve four quarters of football is.
“We are getting there,” she said.
A majority of the team travel to home games in Cootamundra from Young, however local girls are also putting their hand up to wear the navy blue jumper.
Abbey Watson played her first game today and earned herself a number of touches while Winona Lee, Brittany and Sally Ormond are also playing this year from Cootamundra.
As always, there was a good crowd of supporters on hand to cheer the girls on and while they were scoreless, they did not let themselves down throwing themselves into every contest.
Next week the girls face the Riverina Lions in Wagga while the boys are at home against second-placed ANU Griffins.
