Games start with a port and a beer and for those so inclined an oyster.
It is more about fun and laughs than scoring tries and winning scrums and lineouts.
Today, there was even more reason to tune into the Old Boys game with the Wal Hazlett XV having travelled from across the country to honour great mate Wal.
Wal was involved in a helicopter accident which has seen him confined to a wheelchair since.
To help him out financially and show how much the care, the Cootamundra Rugby Club organised a huge day beginning with the Old Boys v Wal Hazlett XV game and culminating in tonight’s sold-out ball at the Town Hall.
Wal and his family was guests of honour at Country Club Oval, where he formerly played for the Tricolours as he enjoyed the afternoon with footy mates who, like him from Queensland, had travelled from near and far to be part of the day.
Following the first game, the women played and the day’s on-field action was wound up by the men against Temora, who in a tight match went down 36-32.
