The event is being organised by the AWARE group with co-organiser Richard White saying all are welcome.
The past two years, Mr White was responsible for coordinating a Refugee Week prayer service, however wanted to do something inclusive of the whole community this year.
“We will stand together to show our opposition to the continued detention policy of both parties,” Mr White said.
He said the vigil will indicate to refugees the community stands by them as well as showing the community that action can taken towards what is often seen as an overwhelming issue.
“Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council is a Refugee Welcome Zone; we are on the side of refugees.”
Community members will read a series of statements from refugees before a minute’s silence is observed.
A cup of hot soup will then be served for anyone who wishes to stay later and chat.
People should bring their own candle.
