It is a top weekend with the important junior judging and equestrian sections growing each year.
The junior judging attracts schools from across the state.
The event does not just happen however; at the helm is the small bud dedicated Cootamundra APH&I Association.
As local residents and visitors enjoy the fireworks at the close of the Cootamundra Show each year, the association is already directing attention to the following year.
The organisation, made up entirely of volunteers, has provided a forum for the Cootamundra district to promote all things agricultural, commercial and horticultural for 127 years.
Built on the back of the region’s country roots, the modern show also provides an opportunity for competition in cooking, arts, craft, photography and produce.
Sub-committees of the main APH&I Association look after individual sections for horses, cattle, sheep, poultry, speed shearing and showgirls.
In recent years, there has also been a grants committee established, responsible for sourcing funding for showground facilities including amenities, sheds and power supplies.
These improved facilities are designed not only for the use and comfort of locals but to attract new visitors to the show, particularly to show livestock.
The APH&I Association was a worthy winner at Saturday night’s Cootamundra Business Awards, pitted against some tough competition in the Strikers Soccer Club, responsible for the popular BnS Ball, Ex-Services Club employee Megan Sawyer, the Cootamundra Visitor Information Centre and the Cootamundra Arts Centre.
Accepting the award, relatively new committee member secretary Gwen Norman thanked the community for the nomination and judges for choosing to recognise the community group.
“It is my distinct pleasure to accept this award on behalf of our president Geoff Larson,” Ms Norman said.
“The Show Society is absolutely committed to the youth of our area and the pursuit of agricultural excellence,” she continued.
Ms Norman has been involved in other show committees and said without a doubt Cootamundra’s APH&I Association is the best she has had the pleasure of representing.
Plans are in full swing for this year’s Cootamundra Show with the main show day set down for Saturday, October 21.
