The Cootamundra Blues survived a late charge by the Southern Cats in Cooma on Saturday to sneak home 10-7-67 to 9-11-65.

The Blues were fast out of the blocks, booting 5-3 to a the Cats’ single point in the opening quarter and won the second quarter courtesy of three late goals.
The went into halftime with a 37 point lead, but the Cats steadied in the third quarter, cutting the Blues’ lead by two points; at the last change, the Blues led by 35.
They then dominated the last quarter, kicking 5-3 and keeping the Blues scoreless.
With 3.37 left in the match, the Cats scored a goal, cutting the Blues’ margin to three points.
They kicked another point with just 68 seconds left in the match, creating a frantic finish as the ball remained in the Cats’ forward line.
For those last three and half minutes the Blues backline worked overtime with Joel Pearson leading the way, closely followed by Ethan Silk, Liam Fridlay and Scott Munday.
Up forward, Sandy Maskell Knight claimed four goals in the first half, but was well held for the remainder of the match.
Stephen Chant and Blake Basham each booted two goals.
One of the Blues’ better players was Lincoln Wilson, who was always in the contest and played his best game to date.
Sadly for Lincoln, early in the last quarter, he received a bad cut to his nose. Bleeding profusely; he was taken to hospital for stitches.
The Blues have bye on Saturday before hosting Belconnen the following weekend during a special ladies day/charity game weekend.
