Course development is being funded by $50,000 government grant to the Cootamundra Cycle Club and club member Stephen Doidge is confident the finished product will attract a host of mountain biking enthusiasts from across the region.
“It is hoped that we will attract some three hour mountain biking events in the future, bringing visitors to town to compete in these events,” Mr Doidge said.
The Hurley St site has already undergone excavation and remodelling, however Mr Doidge said the project wouldn’t be fully completed until an undisclosed date in the coming Spring.
“We will be doing some excavation works and further tree plantings in spring to alleviate erosion when the weather is more amenable,” he said.
Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council’s Administrator Stephen Sykes was pleased with the upgrades and said usable outdoor spaces that encourage a healthy lifestyle should be encouraged.
“This grant and the long term benefits will help improve the experiences had by not only mountain bike enthusiasts but will also encourage cross country runners and recreational walkers,” Mr Sykes said.
Member for Cootamundra Katrina Hodgkinson said upgrade was another example of how the Stronger Communities program supported local organisations.
